London Staycation

We’ve forgone a big summer holiday this year, but for good reason: we’re buying a house (about to exchange, finally!) and it’s sucking up all our time, effort and money – and sanity! It’s been nearly a year since Japan and our Berlin trip was only a long weekend, so we were in serious need of a break. So we decided to take this Friday off and have a little London ‘staycation’ – a holiday in our home city, enjoying the kinds of things we usually rush past and don’t have time to explore.

Tonight we’re staying at the Hoxton Hotel, a ‘budget-luxe’ designer hotel very near my work. Haven’t decided where to have dinner, but maybe Pizza East, a uber-trendy yet delicious pizza-deli just round the corner.

On Friday we plan to visit the Hyper Japan expo in Spitalfields and then go to some local shops and markets, and check out the current show at art gallery Stolen Space. We’re dining and spending Friday night at the Malmaison in Barbican. I’ve been there to eat before and it’s a really nice cosy restaurant with lovely seasonal British/French food.

I’m really excited to visit the Ephemera Society fair on Sunday to browse through all manner of old postcards, type specimens and advertising. Still not sure about Saturday’s plans though – what would you do with a day to yourself in London?

Thanks to Massey PR for helping organise the weekend!

Just moved back after 7 years and you've just done the hard work of organising my first proper weekend for me. Thanks! Heading over to the Innocent cafe too, but now need to fit a whole lot more in.

    Have a great time.

Awesome! I might head to Spitalfields tomorrow, too.

What would I do with a day in London? Head over to Victoria Station and go to Brighton for the day, or in my case 20 years!
